French politicians and journalists often describe the history between France and Algeria as a “complicated passion,” a “love-hate relationship" which ended in a "difficult divorce”. COLONIZATION IS NOT A LOVE STORY is an ironic journey through French archives, confronting the myths through which Algeria and Algerians have been narrated, exposing the gaps, distortions, and violences hidden within the official record.
